This book, held by New Mills Local History Society (reference D1037/1), is from the records of New Mills Co-operative Industrial Society Limited. It covers the period from 1880 to 1913, with notes of changes up to 1915. It is a record of nominations made by members of the Society, naming the persons to whom their shares, interest, and dividends in the Society should be paid at their decease.

Each right-hand page of the book consists of a form to be filled in at the time of the nomination, though in many cases letters or pieces of paper are used instead, and these are attached to the pages over the forms. The completed forms are numbered. Later changes are often recorded on the left-hand pages.

The form has the following pattern:-

Many of the pages have later been crossed through and a note added saying, for example, that the nominee has pre-deceased the member, the account has been closed or the money has been paid according to the nomination.

Many of the nominations in the book were later revoked either before 1914 or in 1914 itself, and these revocations are noted in the book, usually on the left-hand pages. It seems that the Society wrote to members in March 1914 asking them to revoke their nominations (see the note added to nomination No. 244). For some reason, the Society must have wanted to discontinue the system. As a consequence, many of the nominations were revoked in 1914, from March onwards.

The entries in the book have been transcribed in abbreviated format, but preserving essential information and usually preserving the spelling.
